Are you as comfortable in front of a camera as behind one?
Being written about, as well as writing?
Being in front of a camera can be fun. Can be. It’s fun when you are doing fun things and thinking fun thoughts. It is cool when you dictate the time that the camera goes on and off. For example, I would love to do a little show for Youtube. I would talk about what I wanted to talk about when I wanted to talk about it. I would talk about God, family, teaching, movies, and anything else that tickled my fancy. (My fancy is very ticklish.) I would send out the words and images that would impact and impress. I like to talk, and I like to listen. I just have to make sure that the former does not overtake the latter. Being knowingly filmed is a heightened experience. It can bring concise clarity.
It’s not fun when the camera is an intrusion. It’s not fun when someone films you and you don’t know about it. I really don’t need to say much about this. Look around you at our world, and marvel in the filth of the ravenous camera.
I do not think I have ever been written about much. The exception would be toasts at my wedding. They were very nice. On a day when I was consumed with self doubt (my prowess, not my selection) and anxiety, the words were water to my soul. On the other hand, no one likes to see negative things written about them, but depending on the author, those things can be constructive. This is a strange prompt to me. I don’t much care for it, but I am committed to following these prompts for a year. Game on.
